Hana Kotková was born in Olomouc in a family of musicians. Her father, who was a violin teacher and the substitute conductor at the Opava-Theatre, carried on a long family tradition that was devoted to study and to popularize Moravia’s rich popular music-patrimony.
Hana began violin lessons with her father at the age of five and then frequented the music school in her home town, Opava, with Marcela Kuvíková.
Hana has been accustomed to playing in public since her childhood. She still hadn’t turned six, when she started playing in her father’s ensemble and she was only seven when she first performed a classical repertory before an audience.
She made her orchestral debut soon after her ninth birthday, interpreting Vivaldi’s concerts. Not long after that she won her first international competition, the “Kocian International Competition”.
